Aragón Allocates €5 Million to Aulas que Respiran in 2026

Aragón will allocate €5 million in 2026 to the Aulas que respiran program to improve climate control in public schools. The initiative adds €3 million to the €2 million deployed in its first phase, with measures focused on reducing the impact of high temperatures in classrooms.

Aragón raises investment in school climate control to €5 million

The Department of Education, Science and Universities will keep Aulas que respiran active during the final months of 2026 with a new allocation of €3 million. The program is based on needs reported by schools themselves in order to prioritize thermal-comfort measures.

The first phase was funded with €2 million: €1.6 million for climate-control and thermal-comfort measures, and €400,000 to upgrade the electrical installations required for the new equipment. The Department received responses from 282 schools after asking about their most urgent short-term needs.

With that funding, 173 measures were approved at 116 public schools in Aragón: 54 in the province of Zaragoza, 39 in Huesca and 23 in Teruel. The measures include split air-conditioning units, fans, awnings, solar-control films, window louvers, vegetation, outdoor drinking fountains and electrical-upgrade work.

The first phase has provided more than 2,000 fans and approximately 350 climate-control units, in addition to the sun-protection measures installed at beneficiary schools.

Zaragoza’s CEIP Hermanos Marx receives €17,617 to install fans

The regional minister for Education, Science and Universities, Carmen Susín, visited CEIP Hermanos Marx in Zaragoza on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, one of the schools included in the program’s first phase. The school has received €17,617 to install fans in its preschool and elementary classrooms.

In preschool, the school has installed Armstrong-style fans in its four classrooms—one for each grade, plus the classroom for 2-year-olds—by replacing suspended-ceiling panels to integrate the units. In elementary school, the work has focused on installing ceiling fans.

The school’s principal, Pilar Marín, put the investment at around €17,000 and said the solution combines ceiling fans in elementary classrooms with units integrated into the suspended ceiling in preschool classrooms.

Structural renovations at schools will receive €15 million in 2027

The continuation of Aulas que respiran will combine immediate measures with planning for more extensive improvements. This workstream includes reviewing electrical installations and compiling an inventory of the condition of Aragón’s public schools.

Over the medium and long term, the Department plans renovations to roofs, windows, facades, insulation and boilers. For 2027, a total allocation of €15 million is planned for comprehensive structural renovations, including work on roofs, windows, facades and electrical installations.
