The Plaza Linear Park will become a sustainable forest park

Aragón Plataforma Logística (APL) and the Urban Conservation Entity (EUC) of PLAZA have agreed to transform the Linear Park of Zaragoza into a sustainable park-forest, with an investment of 1.42 million euros. This project aims to modernize the largest green space within the logistics platform, improving its sustainability and efficiency.

Transformation into a sustainable park

The agreement between APL and the EUC establishes a collaborative framework to convert the current Linear Park into a more sustainable park-forest model. The investment of 1.42 million euros will be used to modernize the park’s infrastructure, including replacing the irrigation system with a more efficient drip system and renewing hydraulic and electrical infrastructures.

Octavio López, the Logistics Counselor and president of APL, emphasized that the aim is to facilitate the EUC’s assumption of maintenance duties for the park starting in October 2026. The goal is to reduce water and energy consumption and enhance biodiversity through new tree plantings.

Institutional collaboration and long-term management

The collaboration between APL and the EUC is strengthened by the creation of a Monitoring Commission that will oversee the project’s development. APL will finance the works, while the EUC will carry out the actions and handle the park’s maintenance. This initiative seeks to preserve the environmental value of the Linear Park and ensure its long-term conservation.

During a press conference, Octavio López was accompanied by Raquel Campos, General Director of Logistics Planning, and Pedro Sas, Managing Director of APL, who highlighted the importance of this project for the Zaragoza Logistics Platform.

Expansion and development of PLAZA

In the context of consolidation and expansion of PLAZA, Octavio López noted that the platform is over 95% occupied and faces the need to expand its area. Plans are in place to develop 800,000 square meters in Sector 90.1 and another 1.4 million square meters in the forthcoming PLAZA 4.0.

These expansions aim to alleviate the current saturation; however, they are expected to be insufficient, prompting further studies of available land to meet logistics space demand. Investments such as the new access via Puente Turiaso and the development of Sector 90/1 are part of these expansion plans.

Octavio López described PLAZA as «the crown jewel of Aragón’s logistics,» emphasizing that, in addition to the expansions, there is a commitment to creating a natural and friendly environment for workers and citizens. The transformation of the Linear Park and the expansion projects are key to securing PLAZA’s future as a logistical and environmental benchmark.
