Territorio Mudéjar resumes its tours of Zaragoza province this weekend, with an inaugural itinerary through Daroca, Villafeliche and Terrer. The 2026 program, linked to the 25th anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage designation of Aragon’s Mudéjar Architecture, includes a further 16 routes through year-end.
Territorio Mudéjar routes will cover 49 towns in Zaragoza province in 2026
The 2026 calendar reaches the 49 towns that make up the Territorio Mudéjar municipal network. The itineraries combine visits to Mudéjar heritage sites with activities focused on local culture, traditions, cuisine and trades associated with each town.
The program includes guides and heritage professionals connected to the municipalities themselves. The tours extend beyond architecture, offering an introduction to the region, its landscapes, local businesses and centuries-old crafts.
The Pueblos Territorio Mudéjar category brings together 15 itineraries across the province, led by heritage specialists. The tours are organized around six themes: Mudéjar towns and their mixed cultural and borderland character; the origins of the style; towers; light and materials in the construction of space; the cultural landscape as a lived territory, one of the new features; and the relationship between power and territory.
From the Andalusi legacy to Aragon’s Mudéjar architecture
The routes trace the legacy of the Andalusi Islamic tradition from the 8th century and its continuation in the Christian world. This fusion gave rise to Aragonese Mudéjar heritage, which developed from the 13th century through the early decades of the 17th century.
Some itineraries provide access to spaces that are not normally open to the public, including certain towers. The experience also includes food and craft presentations, featuring locally sourced products and partnerships with local establishments.
The Mudéjar World Heritage route will connect Zaragoza, Tobed, Cervera de la Cañada and Calatayud
The Mudéjar World Heritage route will play a prominent role in the UNESCO anniversary commemoration. The itinerary will visit Tobed, Cervera de la Cañada and Calatayud, municipalities that preserve monuments representative of the origins and evolution of Mudéjar art.
In 2026, the itinerary will once again begin in Zaragoza, thanks to an agreement with monuments in the city that share the UNESCO designation. The tower and church of San Pablo and the Parroquieta of La Seo Cathedral will be included in the route’s presentations.
Visits to the buildings and food or craft presentations are free of charge, subsidized by Territorio Mudéjar through its collaboration agreement with the Provincial Council of Zaragoza. Reservations are required through territoriomudejar.es, and participants may travel in their own vehicles or use transportation from Zaragoza. The program also offers tailor-made routes outside the scheduled dates, subject to inquiry and reservation.
