Territorio Mudéjar resumes its guided tours across the province of Zaragoza this weekend with a 2026 program that will reach 49 municipalities and coincide with the 25th anniversary of the designation of Aragón’s Mudéjar Architecture as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The first tour, this Saturday, will visit Daroca, Villafeliche, and Terrer.
Territorio Mudéjar’s 2026 tours include 16 additional departures through year-end
The program includes another 16 departures through the end of the year, in addition to the opening tour. The visits offer an opportunity to explore Mudéjar buildings and heritage, while also engaging with the culture, traditions, gastronomy, and trades associated with each municipality.
Participation requires advance booking through the Territorio Mudéjar website. Visitors may travel in their own vehicles or use organized transportation from Zaragoza. Tours of the buildings, along with the food and craft tastings included in the itineraries, are free of charge.
Fifteen themed itineraries to explore Mudéjar heritage in the province of Zaragoza
The Pueblos Territorio Mudéjar program comprises 15 itineraries led by heritage specialists. The routes are organized around six themes: Hybrid and borderland: Mudéjar towns, Keys to a style: the origins, A bird’s-eye view: the towers, Constructing space: light and matter, Cultural landscape: lived territory, and Power and territory.
The tours trace the legacy of the Andalusi Islamic tradition from the eighth century and its continuity within the Christian world, whose fusion gave rise to Aragonese Mudéjar heritage between the 13th century and the early decades of the 17th century. The 2026 edition will strengthen ties with participating municipalities through guides and heritage professionals connected to the towns, as well as partnerships with local businesses to showcase locally sourced products and centuries-old crafts.
The program also provides access to spaces not usually open to the public, such as towers, and places the landscape at the heart of the experience. In addition, Territorio Mudéjar offers customized tours outside the scheduled dates, subject to prior inquiry and booking.
The UNESCO route will link Zaragoza, Tobed, Cervera de la Cañada, and Calatayud
Commemorations marking the 25th anniversary of UNESCO recognition will give particular prominence to the Mudéjar World Heritage route. The itinerary will visit monuments in Tobed, Cervera de la Cañada, and Calatayud, regarded as representative of the origins and development of Mudéjar art.
In 2026, the route will once again begin in Zaragoza, thanks to an agreement with monuments in the Aragonese capital that share UNESCO status. The tour will include the tower and church of San Pablo, as well as the Parroquieta of La Seo, or Cathedral.
The activities are carried out under a collaboration agreement between Territorio Mudéjar and the Provincial Council of Zaragoza, with a schedule that combines heritage outreach with the economic, cultural, and craft activity of the towns in the network.
