The traditional Solidarity Tulip Market organized by the Zaragoza City Council has once again become a resounding success of solidarity and spring. The initiative, which combines public and private efforts, has managed to raise 47,520.27 euros entirely allocated to the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients of Zaragoza (AFEDAZ).
The people of Zaragoza demonstrated their commitment from early on: many queued for over an hour before the opening, and the nearly 6,000 bouquets (composed of a total of 60,000 tulips from Amsterdam) sold out in just six hours, by 4:30 PM, half the initially planned time. In addition to tulips, petunias were also sold as ornamental complements.
The mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, inaugurated the market, which also featured a festive atmosphere that included music and culminated in a piano concert once the stock was exhausted.
Of the total proceeds, 47,235 euros came directly from the sale of flowers, and almost 300 euros more were collected in voluntary donations deposited in boxes at the payment point.
This amount will allow AFEDAZ to finance essential services for people affected by Alzheimer’s and their families: day centers, home care, therapies to maintain autonomy, psychological, social, and legal support for caregivers, training programs, companionship, public awareness, and maintenance of their infrastructures.
This initiative has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of Fundación Ibercaja, Urbaser, and Industrias Químicas del Ebro, which donated the tulips. With this second edition, the Solidarity Tulip Market has already raised nearly 80,000 euros in total and sold around 10,000 bouquets in its two editions.
