This weekend saw a new edition of Zaragoza Florece; an event that attracted over 360,000 attendees and transformed the iconic Parque Grande into a stage for floral art, music, and civic culture.
Zaragoza has experienced a notable renaissance once again. Despite persistent winds and cool temperatures at the outset, the fifth edition of the Zaragoza Florece festival confirmed its success with an estimated attendance of more than 360,000 people. The Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta, the central hub of this spring festival, became a showcase for creativity, sustainability, and community participation.
With more than 52,000 flower stems and 2,100 plants used in the event, the city’s green lung has turned into a living outdoor gallery. Nine floral installations, accompanied by creative workshops and cultural events such as fashion shows and concerts, shaped an artistic gathering that is already recognized in Spain and is beginning to establish itself on the European calendar. Floral interventions by prominent artists such as Tom De Bruyne, Irati Tamarit, Rosa Valls, and Carlos Curbelo transformed simple locations like fountains, stairwells, and pathways into authentic paradises filled with botanical fantasy.
The complete list of intervened spaces is as follows:
- Stairway of the Battler by Tomas de Bruyne
- Greenhouse by Irati Tamarit
- Fountain of Neptune by Juan Chamorro
- The Aviary by Carlos Curbelo
- Isabel Zapata Marín Street by Carles J. Fontanillas
- The Well by Rosa Valls
- Surrounding the Kiosk of Music by the Association of Florists of Aragon
- Cypress by Col·lectiu Paral·lel
- Bridge of the Singer-Songwriters will be the Botanical Walkway
The choice of fashion as the central theme was manifested in the Botanical Walkway; there, local designers such as Berduque, Nacho Lamar, and Cruz Temprado presented nature-inspired creations to the audience. The family-friendly and welcoming atmosphere was enhanced thanks to areas like Ecokids, where more than 1,500 children participated in educational activities related to the environment.
This year fashion has been our guiding thread, and they welcomed the visitors to the Park with their wonderful proposals, said the Minister of the Environment and Mobility, Tatiana Gaudes
The musical area had a prominent presence, offering more than 30 performances in various areas of the park; among them were concerts by Amatria, Copacabana, and Teatro Che y Moche. All this was carried out without notable incidents, thanks to effective logistics involving over 400 experts in the field.
In the surrounding areas of the Zaragoza Park, the slogan “The city blooms” has highlighted a growing bond between the urban community and nature. In this vein, shop fronts, hotels, and restaurants were adorned, while themed workshops and offerings emerged. Public transportation also joined this floral trend with decorated shelters and special vinyls.
The cultural event organized by the City Council in close collaboration between the public and private sectors received support from over 20 companies such as Ibercaja, Ambár, El Corte Inglés, FCC, and Ikea. This partnership has been crucial in making Zaragoza Florece an increasingly ambitious event that respects the environment.
Zaragoza Florece is solidifying its position as a symbol of urban identity. A space where nature, art, and citizenship intertwine to project a city that not only blooms once a year but bets on beauty, culture, and shared life as part of its DNA.
