The Zaragoza Provincial Council has organized a new edition of its Organ Concerts in the Province of Zaragoza, which will offer 12 free concerts in various municipalities with free entry until capacity is reached. The musical cycle will begin this Thursday at 8:00 PM at the Church of Santa Isabel in Zaragoza and will extend across the province until September 28.
The concerts will take place in twelve municipalities of the province: Zaragoza, Brea de Aragón, Caspe, Ejea de los Caballeros, Épila, La Almunia de Doña Godina, Mallén, Muel, Tarazona, Tobed, Trasobares, and Zuera. The program alternates established performers with prestigious young organists, aiming to showcase the quality of Aragonese organs and organists.
Participating artists include Juan de la Rubia, Benantzi Bilbao, Javier Artigas, Fernando Sánchez, Jaime Martínez Vivancos, Silvia Márquez, Guido García Sánchez, Luis Antonio González Marín, Alize Mendizabal, Eduardo Gregorio, Juan Compés, and Javier Sáez Docón.
The Delegate for Culture, Charo Lázaro, emphasized that these concerts represent a valuable opportunity to highlight the cultural and musical richness of this instrument, which has a history dating back centuries. According to Lázaro, they allow appreciation of the variety of styles, techniques, and repertoires that the organ can offer, while highlighting the fundamental role of organists as highly trained interpreters who master a complex technique and possess deep musical sensitivity.
The provincial deputy stated that through these meetings the preservation of organ heritage is promoted, training of new generations is encouraged, and an artistic tradition that continues to resonate strongly today is kept alive.
Lázaro emphasized that these concerts not only serve an artistic and educational function but also contribute to a broader effort of cultural heritage conservation. The support of the Zaragoza Provincial Council has been key for the recovery, restoration, and enhancement of numerous historical organs that are part of the province’s artistic legacy.
For over 40 years, notable national and international concert performers have participated in these concerts, impressing those who discover the immense organ heritage preserved in the province of Zaragoza. With great success from both the public and critics, this musical event has become one of the most important internationally dedicated to this instrument.
The Zaragoza Provincial Council has been engaged for years in the rescue and maintenance of these instruments as they were conceived by their creators from the 17th century to the most recently constructed instruments.
