This initiative, announced on August 3, 2026, in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Zaragoza, has a budget of €300,000 to subsidize stays at local spas, promoting the overall well-being of rural inhabitants.
Allocation of Spots and Priority Recipients
For the second consecutive year, the Zaragoza Provincial Council has prioritized residents of the province’s municipalities over those of the capital. Following the allocation of the 1,003 spots for these municipalities, the institution will proceed to assign the remaining spots to those registered in the city of Zaragoza. This approach aims to ensure that the benefits of social thermalism primarily reach rural areas.
Social and Territorial Value of the Program
Mercedes Trébol, the Deputy Delegate for Social Welfare, highlights that the program is one of the initiatives with the greatest social impact by the Provincial Council. According to Trébol, it facilitates access to thermal treatments that improve the health and well-being of residents, promoting active aging and prevention. She also emphasizes that the program supports local spas, generating economic activity and jobs in the municipalities, which is crucial for rural development.
Features of the Subsidized Stays
The program offers five-day, four-night stays on a full board basis at the spas in Alhama de Aragón, La Virgen, Termas Pallarés, and Paracuellos de Jiloca. Beneficiaries receive accommodation, personalized medical care, and a minimum of three thermal treatments daily. Stays can be in single or double rooms, with the option to share with an accompanying person who does not receive assistance.
Thermal Vouchers and Conditions of Assistance
The assistance is provided in the form of thermal vouchers, allowing beneficiaries to pay directly at the spa with the discount applied. The Provincial Council then reimburses the subsidized portion to the establishments. Users can receive up to 40% off the total cost, with a maximum of €300 per person, facilitating access to quality treatments and supporting the spas in the province.
