The Taj Mahal Cómics bookstore, located in Zaragoza, has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, consolidating its position as the oldest comic book store in Spain. Founded in 1974, this establishment has become an essential meeting point for comic, manga and pop culture fans.
Last weekend, Taj Mahal Cómics commemorated its half-century of existence with a special event at the Teatro Inevitable in Zaragoza. During the celebration, the new comic book ‘FML’ by renowned cartoonist David Lopez, who has worked for renowned publishers such as Marvel and DC Comics, was presented.
The history of Taj Mahal Cómics began when José Enrique Fernández, known as Pepe, acquired the store 35 years ago, fulfilling his dream of running a bookstore. Since then, the store has offered a wide variety of European, American and Japanese comics, as well as fantasy literature, role-playing games and related merchandising.
After José Enrique’s death in 2013, his sons Daniel and Enrique Fernández took over the management of the family business. Under their management, the bookstore has been able to adapt to market changes, implementing online sales and expanding its catalog with comics in English and exclusive material obtained at international conventions.
Taj Mahal Cómics is not only a place of sale, but also a cultural space that organizes presentations, author signings and other activities related to the world of comics. Its half century of history reflects the passion and dedication of the Fernández family for the ninth art, consolidating the bookstore as a reference in Zaragoza and throughout Spain.
