The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Campo de Borja and the Provincial Council of Zaragoza (DPZ) presented today in the Throne Room of the Sástago Palace the new edition of “The Four Seasons of Grenache 2025”. This consolidated cycle of wine tourism experiences, which will take place in the emblematic Monastery of Veruela, will offer tastings, themed visits, heritage and gastronomy throughout the year. As a novelty, in this edition it will be possible to taste Grenache wines from Italy, California, Australia and France.
The presentation ceremony was attended by Eduardo Arilla, deputy delegate of the Veruela Monastery of the DPZ, Eduardo Ibáñez, president of the Regulatory Council of the Campo de Borja PDO, and José Ignacio Gracia, secretary of the Council.
Arilla highlighted “the exceptional setting of the Veruela monastery to host these tastings, far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, offering a unique experience to learn about Garnacha, an indigenous product rooted in the region’s winemaking tradition”. He also highlighted the importance of “combining the knowledge of local garnachas with the opportunity to explore international wines”, in a key year for the province, which is celebrating the recognition of Cariñena as European City of Wine.
For his part, José Ignacio Gracia announced that the 2025 edition of the Grenaches du Monde International Competition will be held in Cariñena and Zaragoza, recalling that the first international edition of this prestigious competition took place in Veruela in 2016. “To commemorate that historic event, we will dedicate this cycle of tastings to Grenaches from different countries,” he said.
Eduardo Ibáñez evoked the transcendence of that 2016 Grenaches du Monde and underscored the efforts of the Campo de Borja PDO Regulatory Council to put Aragonese Grenache on the world map. “Bringing that competition to Veruela was a dream fulfilled, and even today it is still remembered as one of the most special editions of the competition,” he said. Ibáñez also thanked the DPZ for its unconditional support, not only for this cycle, but also for the Wine Museum, which celebrates its 30th anniversary with more than one million visitors.
