The most popular festivals of this summer 2022 in Aragón

In Go Aragón we list in order of date the musical and artistic events that are hosted during the summer period in Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel so you do not miss any plan. Among them, the Monegros Desert, Polifonik Sound or Pirineos Sur.

In Go Aragón we want you to enjoy this summer to the fullest and have a great time with the best music. Therefore, we tell you in this article at least a dozen of the festivals that will be held this summer 2022 in the Community.

To whet your appetite, before the solstice begins on June 21, we remind you that the Música al Raso series is already taking place in Zaragoza. Until July 2, the stages Escenario Ibercaja / Plaza San Bruno and Escenario Ambar / Jardín de Invierno in the Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta will host concerts of jazz, soul, rock, folk, alternative country, pop, trap and a long etcetera. As main courses, the international Wilco will perform on Tuesday 21, Rufus Wainwright on Thursday 30 and Cat Power on the last day of the festival.

Also, on the weekend of June 17-19, the Bosque Sonoro will be held in the Zaragoza town of Mozota, with groups such as Los Planetas, Kiko Veneno and El niño de Elche. A fact to emphasize is that the objective for which the Bosque Sonoro is founded is social and environmental. It aims to address the loss of forest mass – a tree will be planted for each ticket purchased – as well as to prevent depopulation and lack of employment in the town. Now, yes, we start the summer:

POBORINA FOLK (24- 26 JUNE)

The XXII edition of the Poborina Folk is celebrated the weekend closest to the night of San Juan, in Pobo de la Sierra (Teruel). It will take place on June 24, 25 and 26. There will be 72 hours of activities for all ages and concerts for all tastes. The line-up includes groups from Aragon such as El Gancho Sonidero, from La Rioja such as Tündra, from La Mancha such as La Ronda de Motilleja or from Galicia such as Xabier Díaz & Adufeiras de Salitre.

LAGATA REGGAE (JUNE 25 and 26)

Reggae will take over the Zaragoza region of Campo de Belchite on June 25 and 26 with the celebration of Lagata Reggae. This is one of the oldest festivals in the Aragonese scene, after eighteen editions. This year, the festival will be held in the town of Azuara, where a camping area and another one for camper vehicles will be set up just five kilometers away from Lagata, where the festival was born. National and international artists shape the line-up. Among them, one of the most important artists of the Spanish and Latin American rap scene of Aragonese origin: Rapsusklei.

POLIFONIK SOUND (1 and 2 JULY)

After two years of forced hiatus due to the pandemic, PolifoniK Sound 2022 returns on July 1 and 2 in the town of Barbastro, Huesca. They assure from the organization that they do it «stronger than ever» in this thirteenth edition, and its cartel proves it. Among the artists who shape the festival, Delaporte, In materia or DJ caro on the opening day and Guitarricadelafuente, Zahara and La la love you on the 2nd.

AÍNSA CASTLE FESTIVAL (2- 30 JULY)

Concerts, theater performances and workshops give life to the Festival Castillo de Ainsa. This year, they resume the activity betting on music, being the headliners the Madrid group Morgan, the American guitarist Eric Gales and the Catalan duo composed of Maria Arnal and Marcel Bages. Likewise, the organization celebrates the incorporation of Los Mambo Jambo and the presence of musicians from Sobrarbe and other parts of Aragon as Ana Diáfana, Marko Zaragoza, Olga y los Ministriles, Almalé… In total, there are twenty-five shows, which complete the program along with exhibitions, lectures, guided tours and the presentation of the 50th edition of La Morisma.

Pirineos Sur (15 JULY- 6 AUGUST)

About to turn 30 years old, Pirineos Sur celebrates its XXIX anniversary this summer, once again acting as a meeting point between cultures and sounds of the five continents. On the banks of the reservoir, between the Huesca towns of Lanuza and Gallent de Gállego, groups of the stature of Estopa, Residente, Rayden, Macaco, Fuel Fandango or Rozalén will parade. All of them, between July 15 and August 5. On the 6th, Nathy Peluso will close the festival.

MONEGROS DESERT FESTIVAL (30 JULY)

Electronic music lovers have an appointment in Fraga (Huesca) on July 30 at the Monegros Desert Festival. This macro-party returns for the ninth time, and after a few years of hiatus, but with new features: it will be the largest in its history, with 45,000 people, and will feature more than 125 artists. By now the complete line-up is already known. The last to be announced were the Sevillian rap group SFDK or the French Laurent Garnier, who join others already known as Wu Tang Clan or Vitalic.

VERUELA DE VERANO (30 JULY- 20 AUGUST)

The Monastery of Veruela is transformed into a stage every Saturday from July 30 to August 20. The Veruela de Veruela Summer Festival will celebrate its annual musical proposal with four concerts. The Madrid singer-songwriter EDE, between indie, folk and soul, opens the cycle with songs from throughout his career. She will be followed by Pablo Milanés on the 6th with a repertoire combining songs from his latest album and classics from his discography. On the 13th Duquende and Chicuelo will bring a dose of flamenco, singing and guitar and, finally, Valeria Castro will be responsible for bringing the curtain down on the 20th with her sensitive, fragile style, capable of generating all kinds of emotions in the audience.

BRIZNA DE AYERBE (5- 7 AUGUST)

Brizna, the festival of the Arts of Ayerbe that surprised last summer with straw bales as walls to enclose a festival site, returns on August 5, 6 and 7 with the same desire to demonstrate the strength of the rural as a cultural catalyst. This season it will be Carolina Durante, with her recently released album ‘Cuatro chavales’, and Kiko Veneno who will be in charge of launching even more this festival, which is located in the Comarca de la Hoya, a few kilometers from the capital of Huesca.

VIVE LATINO (2- 3 SEPTEMBER)

One of the biggest music events comes at the end of the season and that is the celebration of the Vive Latino festival in Zaragoza. Two days, thirty-six artists and three stages summarize in numbers this musical encounter brought for the first time from Mexico to Spain. The Expo site will host groups of all styles. Just some of them are Amaral, Carlos Sandness, Coque Malla, Café Tacva, Kase O., Love of Lesbian, Leiva, Mon Laferte or Rulo y la Contrabanda. This will form one of the biggest shows in the country.

We had promised to talk about summer festivals, but we cannot close this article without mentioning the Zaragoza Independent Festival (FIZ). It will be held right at the beginning of autumn, on September 24 at the Multipurpose Hall of the Auditorium of the Aragonese capital, after practically a whole pregnancy (9 months) of waiting for the Covid. The confirmed bands are Dorian, La Casa Azul, Carolina Durante, Ojete Calor, Cariño, Eleven and Mediapunta.
