The Goya museum displays all the major series that Goya engraved from 1778 to 1825: Copias de Velázquez (1778), Caprichos (1799), Desastres de la guerra (1810-1815), Tauromaquia (1816), Disparates (1816-1820) and Toros de Burdeos (1824-1825). Each of the series is a milestone in the process of research and creation within this art, in a constant desire for artistic improvement and openness to modernity.

Goya is one of the great figures of engraving, not only for technical reasons but also for thematic reasons. Our artist mastered all the engraving techniques of his time: etching, aquatint, drypoint, converging several of these techniques in the same print. In 1825, at the age of seventy-nine, he experimented with a new technique: lithography. But his genius lies in the perfect combination and perfect adequacy of the technique with the content.
