Aragonese exports reached a value of 1,348.7 million euros and recorded a slight year-on-year decrease of 0.2% in the month of September 2021, while in Spain they scored an average increase of 21.9% year-on-year, according to data made public this Monday by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. Despite the frictions that world trade is experiencing and the supply crisis that is affecting various sectors, the nominal foreign trade data of the Autonomous Community recorded in the month of September are the second highest record achieved in a September and the fourth highest monthly record in the historical series. In the ranking of Spanish regions, Aragón is the second Autonomous Community with the worst annual export performance in September.
With respect to total Aragonese imports in the month of September, these increased by 6.7% year-on-year to reach a value of 1,154.6 million euros, while in the national aggregate, purchases abroad recorded an increase of 24.2% year-on-year.
The breakdown of foreign trade figures among the main sectors shows how the activities with the greatest relative importance in the Autonomous Community’s foreign sales during September 2021 were those related to the automotive sector (with an export value of 417, 0 million euros, accounting for 30.9% of the total), food, beverages and tobacco (with an export value of 235.0 million euros, accounting for 17.4% of the total) and consumer manufactures (with an export value of 195.8 million euros, accounting for 14.5% of the total).
With regard to Aragon’s imports, the productive sectors that show the highest figures in the same month are the following: consumer manufactures (with an import value of 373.9 million euros, representing 32.4% of the total), capital goods (with an import value of 305.2 million euros, representing 26.4% of the total), and the automobile sector (with an import value of 140.3 million euros, representing 12.2% of the total).
However, in the accumulated January-September period, exports from Aragon increased by 13.3% annually, reaching a value of 10,788.5 million euros, while in Spain they increased by 22.1%. On the other hand, imports in Aragon increased by 20.7% year-on-year during the first nine months of the year, reaching a value of 9,038.9 million euros, while in Spain they recorded an annual growth of 21.9%.
As a result of the evolution of trade flows so far in 2021, Aragon recorded a trade surplus of 1,739.6 million euros, 13.9% lower than that obtained during the same period in 2020. In this way, the Autonomous Community contributes to the decrease in the Spanish trade deficit accumulated up to September 2021, which stands at 13,267.4 million euros.
Finally, Aragon’s coverage rate in the year-to-date stands at 116.8%, 24.6 points above the Spanish average (92.2%).
