The program Parks with Heart (“Parques con Corazón”) resumes this week after the pause caused by the pandemic. Promoted by the Zaragoza City Council and the Aragonese Society of Cardiology, these heart-healthy circuits will be held again from Monday to Friday in the Pignatelli, Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta, Torre Ramona, Delicias and Vadorrey parks.

Aimed at healthy or asymptomatic elderly people, these walks are between 1.5 and 3 kilometers long and are designed for walking about 40 minutes at a moderate pace and without pause, so that they allow for conversation. They promote physical activity in company and healthy lifestyle habits. In addition, the socialization of the elderly is favored and urban green spaces are valued for their enjoyment.

The program is organized by the Environment and Sustainability area and the Zaragoza Volunteers are in charge of accompanying the walks, which take place from Monday to Friday completely free of charge and without the need for prior registration. All you have to do is go to the meeting point at the park at the scheduled time and wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear.

Parks with Heart was suspended at the beginning of the pandemic because its participants were at-risk groups. After all this time, the program will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, with a day of reunion that will take place at the Estación del Norte Civic Center. It will discuss cardiovascular health and how green infrastructure also contributes to improving quality of life. The talks are open to the general public until full capacity is reached.

The day will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the inauguration of the Councilor for Participation and Relations with Citizens, Javier Rodrigo. This will be followed by the talk “Heart, physical activity and health” by Dr. Antonela Lukic, cardiologist at the Hospital Clínico Lozano Blesa and president of the Aragonese Association of Cardiology.

Later, at 12:05 pm, Professor Francisco Pellicer will speak on “Green Infrastructure, health and city”. Pellicer is a professor of Geography and Land Management and one of the people who initiated Parks with heart. The day will end with a closing speech by the Councilor for the Environment, Patricia Cavero, and a small gift for the participants.
