Casa Russell: The spectacular hut built into the rock with jacuzzi at Torla

Torla-Ordesa is a paradise in the middle of the Aragonese Pyrenees. Can you imagine spending your stay in Torla in a cabin integrated into the surroundings and with a jacuzzi? This is possible in Casa Russell, a small but charming cabin for two people (and at most two children) with a spectacular view of the Mondarruego peak.

When you enter Casa Russell, you will be surprised by the rock wall and hanging ivy that has been used as the main wall of the room, where the cooker rounds off the dreamy atmosphere. As if that wasn’t enough, in the bathroom there is a whirlpool bathtub embedded in the floor for relaxation. Does it look like a dream? It’s not!

A family in love with the mountains

Casa Russel is part of the Hotel Villa Rusell, a complex with a hotel, flats and an independent cabin and bungalow. José Antonio Oliván and his wife Marisol Villacampa are the current managers of the hotel. José Antonio was born in Torla, but had to emigrate to Barcelona with his family. “In 83 we returned to the village. I really liked the mountains and that was the trigger for me to end up living here”, says the hotel manager. The establishment was born from the idea of a cousin of José Antonio, who decided to renovate the house and the stable, where the hotel area would be located.

Thus, in 2004 the Hotel Villa Russell was inaugurated, a stone building in the centre of Torla-Ordesa. The hotel has WiFi connection, an indoor terrace with a bar and another smaller bar inside, where breakfast is served. It also has a car park and all rooms have a kitchenette with crockery, fridge, sink and microwave. “We have pre-cooked dishes that we bring from Benasque so that if a customer wants a more traditional dish, we can also offer it to them”, explains José Antonio.

In 2007 they expanded their accommodation with flats for two (studios), four and six people. All of them have a full kitchen, fridge and washing machine. But the jewels in the crown are the two independent buildings, the cabin and the borda. The latter has a capacity for six people, its own large garden, covered parking, barbecue area and garden terrace with unbeatable views of Ordesa and the surrounding area.

Family tourism and friendly service

“We don’t have a desk, we only have a table where the clients sit down and the first thing we ask them is what they want to do, the intention of their trip… and we recommend them what to do, where to go, what to do and what to take on excursions… It is a small hotel and our treatment is very close, face to face”, says Oliván.

The complex is geared towards family tourism and has a play area, as well as being fully adapted for the disabled.

Would you like to hold an event with views of the Pyrenees? The open-air grounds at Villa Russell are available for different events such as weddings. The space is so versatile that tents of up to 200 square metres can be set up, making the Casa Russell hut the ideal place to spend your wedding night!
