Dolmen Editorial Highlights for April 2025: Classics, Science Fiction, and Author Comics

In April, Dolmen offers readers a carefully curated selection of titles that reflect its editorial diversity: from cult works like Barbarella and The Phantom, to new graphic stories by contemporary authors like Isaac Sánchez. There is science fiction, humor, social critique, parody, urban art, literature in Catalan, and Mallorcan cuisine. A powerful month for comic enthusiasts and lovers of well-crafted editions.

Buena Gente, by Isaac Sánchez, is a graphic novel set in 1960s Spain. In the fictional town of Benquerencia del Río, an unusual contest is held to choose «the best person» in the area, unleashing a hypocritical and fierce race among the neighbors. The author of Baños Pleamar and El de la Batamanta returns with a scathing story about false morality, pretense, and greed.

The classic saga Perro de Estroncio continues with volume 4, where Johnny Alpha and Wulf travel from the planet of the Gronks to the Island of the Living Dead. With a script by John Wagner, Alan Grant, and Chris Lowder, and art by Carlos Ezquerra and Robin Smith, this installment includes previously unpublished stories from the 1980s in Spain. Additionally, Dolmen releases a collected pack with the first two volumes of the series.

Dolmen publishes a special edition of The Phantom 1946-1948, with a script by Lee Falk and art by Wilson McCoy. Humor, romance, adventures, and pirates intertwine in the pages of this classic, presented in a hardcover and black-and-white edition.

Barbarella, by Jean-Claude Forest, also returns in a paperback edition with color extras. A revolutionary comic, blending science fiction and eroticism, it marked an era and continues to be a reference point in European comics.

Mutts 2020 – A Different Friend, by Patrick McDonnell, collects a year of comic strips featuring Earl and Mooch, a dog and a cat who celebrate friendship and diversity with humor and warmth. Perfect for all ages.

Also back is Superagente 327 (1969-1976) by Martin Lodewijk, a volume filled with parodies and absurd adventures in the best style of Dutch comics. A showcase of Lodewijk’s narrative and graphic mastery, featuring stories that combine espionage and satire.

The Òrbita collection includes titles in Catalan such as Gemega el vent a Ciutat, by Joan Binimelis, an introspective science fiction novel set in a post-pandemic world. And L’Art Urbà a Mallorca, by Neus Aguiló, a visual tour of urban art on the island, with photographs and texts about local artists.

For food lovers, 100 Variats, by David Valdés and Tomeu Pinya, offers an illustrated guide to Mallorca’s most iconic tapas. It includes recipes, stories, and a selection of must-visit bars to savor this culinary tradition.

Aves de la peste, by award-winning author Jason Sanford, is a dark science fiction novel in which a young girl must become one of the creatures she fears most to save her village. A blend of dystopia, technology, and personal epic that has been recognized with the Philip K. Dick Award.

The magazine Dolmen, in its double issue 361-362, dedicates its main content to the figure of cartoonist Alan Davis, along with special articles on Superman, the X-Men, Lex Luthor, and exclusive interviews.

On its part, Revista Manual 15 arrives with an issue focused on Japan and video games, featuring interviews with Yoshitaka Amano, Entei Ryu, Ryuichi Nishizawa, and other key figures in contemporary digital art.
