The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has launched a tender worth 78 million euros for the maintenance of 581 kilometers of state roads in Zaragoza. This initiative aims to enhance safety and energy efficiency across the road network by integrating decarbonization and sustainability measures.

The tender encompasses a total of 78 million euros, allocated for the maintenance and operation of over 581 kilometers of roads in Zaragoza. Affected routes include the AP-68, A-2, N-234, N-2, N-2A, N-2R, N-232, N-232-A, Z-40, and AP-2, with specific rehabilitation planned for 6.18 kilometers of the AP-2. These contracts, previously authorized by the Council of Ministers, have a duration of three years, with an option for an extension of up to two years and nine months.
The contract structure is divided into four sectors: Sector 6 covers the AP-68 and its junction with the A-2; Sector 5 includes the A-2, N-234, N-2, N-2A, and N-2R; Sector 1 consists of the A-2, A-68, N-2, N-232, N-232-A, and Z-40; while Sector 4 focuses on the AP-2, involving pavement rehabilitation work.
Objectives and Planned Actions
The Ministry’s maintenance program primarily aims to ensure optimal circulation, road safety, and infrastructure conditions across the State Road Network. The contracts are mixed, combining services and works to provide a comprehensive mobility solution for users. Planned actions include roadway management, incident response, winter road maintenance, road safety studies, and the upkeep of road facilities and elements.
Additionally, the plan includes monitoring and responding to accidents, as well as improving communications. This approach seeks to not only enhance the physical condition of the roads but also to optimize public resources and provide a more efficient and safer service to users.
Commitment to Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization
The contract specifications incorporate requirements to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. Specific measures include energy self-consumption, lighting savings, and the use of electric vehicles. Awarded companies must submit a decarbonization plan within the first six months of the contract, aimed at achieving a carbon-neutral balance during its duration.
