In the first quarter of 2026, Aragón reached record figures in active population and employment, reflecting a sustained economic recovery. According to the Active Population Survey (EPA) of the National Institute of Statistics, published on April 28, 2026, these indicators demonstrate the dynamism of the Aragonese labor market.
Increase in Active Population and Employment
The active population of Aragón rose to 696,300 individuals, marking an increase of 2.7% compared to the previous year, which represents 18,400 more people. In terms of employment, the number of individuals with jobs reached 638,000, an increase of 16,300 jobs, equivalent to an annual growth of 2.6%.
Despite the rise in the number of unemployed, which stood at 58,300 individuals, the unemployment rate remained at 8.4%, significantly below the national average of 10.8%. This data positions Aragón as the fourth autonomous community with the lowest unemployment rate, surpassed only by Cantabria, Madrid, and the Basque Country.
Sectoral and Gender Variations
The sectoral analysis reveals notable growth in agriculture and services, with increases of 12.1% and 3.3% respectively. However, the industrial and construction sectors experienced a slight contraction, losing 1,400 and 300 jobs respectively.
Regarding gender distribution, the male active population reached 376,000 individuals, while the female population totaled 320,400. Male employment grew by 2.5% annually, while female employment increased by 2.8%. Unemployment rates were lower among men (6.8%) compared to women (10.2%).
Performance by Provinces
The unemployment rates varied among the provinces of Aragón: Huesca recorded the lowest at 5.6%, followed by Teruel at 8.6% and Zaragoza at 9.0%. These figures highlight the territorial differences within the community, yet overall, they reflect a continuous improvement in the labor market of Aragón.
