Aragón is positioning itself as a leader in the implementation of advanced agricultural technologies in the Monegros region, an example of how innovation and digitization are transforming rural areas. At the closing of the XIX Impulso Monegros Business Conference, the acting Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food, Javier Rincón, highlighted the consolidation of these practices within the autonomous community.
The primary sector as a cornerstone of identity and cohesion in Aragón
Javier Rincón emphasized the importance of the primary sector in Aragón, describing it as a pillar of identity, social cohesion, and a future for rural communities. In regions such as Los Monegros, agriculture and livestock not only generate employment but also help retain population and create economic opportunities. This sector is presented as strategic for regional development and the sustainability of its towns.
The Sariñena region has become a benchmark for territorial transformation thanks to agriculture 4.0. The implementation of advanced irrigation systems, along with the use of data, sensors, and precision techniques, has enabled this area to be an example of efficiency, competitiveness, and progressive sustainability.
Significant investments in agricultural technology
The Department of Agriculture of Aragón has invested approximately 30 million euros in aid for the acquisition of machinery and 4.0 technologies. This investment was complemented in March 2026 with an additional resolution of nearly 4 million euros, aimed at further promoting the incorporation of advanced technology in the agricultural operations of the region. These actions underscore Aragón’s commitment to the modernization of the primary sector.
Calls to the central government and commitment to the sector
During his speech, Rincón urged the central government to become more involved in supporting the agricultural and livestock sector, especially in light of international challenges such as the Iran War. He criticized the notion that farmers and ranchers should be the «paying price for external decisions» and reaffirmed Aragón’s commitment to continue defending the sector through innovation, irrigation, digitization, and rural development. These strategies aim to create real and sustainable opportunities for the future of rural Aragón.
