Aragonese Agricultural Income Grows 14.8% to 2.55 Billion Euros
The Agricultural Income in Aragon experienced a year-on-year growth of 14.78% in current terms in 2024, reaching 2.55 billion euros according to the Agricultural Macromagnitudes report prepared by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food of the Government of Aragon. This increase exceeds the national average by more than three percentage points, which was 11.17%.
The increase recorded in the region is explained by the rise in the production of pork, cereals, eggs, and fattened chickens, along with a reduction in the intermediate consumption of the livestock sector and a greater volume of other subsidies. Pork continues to be the most significant subsector, representing 43% of the Final Agricultural Production (FAP).
Livestock production constitutes 69% of Aragonese agricultural activity, compared to 31% for agricultural crop production. These percentages contrast with the national average, where agricultural activity (56%) predominates over livestock (42%). The five most relevant subsectors account for 82.8% of Aragon’s FAP: pork (43.2%), cereals (11.3%), beef cattle (9.8%), fruit trees (9.5%), and eggs and poultry (9.1%).
In 2024, the Final Agricultural Production reached 6.223.8 million euros, an increase of 3.76% compared to the previous year. Final Agricultural Production totaled 1.774.5 million euros (+0.30%), highlighting increases in cereals (+50.5%) and tubers (+37.8%), while olive oil (-30.5%) and vineyards (-19%) decreased. Final Livestock Production amounted to 4.287 million euros (+3.76%).
Agricultural subsidies reached 541.4 million euros, marking an increase of 20.39% over 2023. Almost 93% corresponds to subsidies not associated with agricultural production, which grew by 21.67%, primarily due to the implementation of the new programming period of the CAP.
Provincial Distribution and Institutional Assessment
Huesca contributed 49.5% of Aragon’s agricultural income, Zaragoza 31.8%, and Teruel 18.7%. Regarding the weight of the livestock subsector, Teruel leads (85%), followed by Huesca (71%) and Zaragoza (61%).
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food, Javier Rincón, assessed these figures as the best proof that the efforts of our farmers and ranchers bear fruit, even in a context of challenging prices and climate. Rincón committed to support the primary sector with investment, modernization, and stability so that it continues to be an economic engine for the Community and for territorial cohesion.
