Avanza inaugurates photographic exhibition for its 140th anniversary at Paseo Independencia
Avanza celebrates 140 years of history in Zaragoza with a photographic exhibit that traces the evolution of public transport in the city from 1885 to the present day. The exhibition will be on display at Paseo Independencia until October 1, 2025.
The exhibit titled 140 years in motion, from horse-drawn trams to autonomous vehicles reviews the company’s journey, which began in 1885 with the creation of the entity «Los Tranvías de Zaragoza» and continues today as «Avanza by Mobility ADO.» During this period, the company has managed trams, trolleybuses, and buses, developing a network that has expanded alongside the urban development of Zaragoza.
The exhibition comprises 10 large totems that chronologically present the evolution of the company and public transport in Zaragoza. The large-format photographs illustrate the transformation of the vehicles that have made up the fleet, from mule-drawn trams to the latest generation electric buses, which currently represent a third of the total fleet.
The exhibit also includes the evolution of payment systems, from cardboard tickets to digital formats, including cardboard bus passes, electronic cards, and thermal paper tickets. Among the curiosities on display are the bus network for Expo 2008, the first shuttles for the Pilar festivities, the minibuses that preceded the PMRS service, and the various tourist buses that have operated in the city.
Institutional Participation and Photographic Material
The inauguration was attended by the Councilor for Mobility of the City Council, Tatiana Gaudes; the director of El Periódico de Aragón, Ricardo Barceló; and the director of Avanza in Zaragoza, Carlos Agulló. According to Agulló, the company has evolved into a major corporation without forgetting its Zaragoza origins, celebrating the anniversary «with an eye on the future and on providing new and better mobility solutions.»
The photographs included in the exhibition, some of which are unpublished, come from the historical archives of both entities and from private collections of users and transport enthusiasts who have lent them for the occasion. The exhibit represents a tribute to the public transport of the city, to the people who have used it over the years, and to Zaragoza for successfully integrating mobility into its urban development.
