Artificial Intelligence Conferences in Aragón: II Edition

The Government of Aragón and the Manuel Giménez Abad Foundation are organizing the II edition of the conference «Aragón: autonomy in the digital age» on November 5 and 6. These conferences serve as a forum for debate and dissemination regarding the changes society is experiencing due to technological transformation, with a special focus on artificial intelligence. The meetings will be held in the Crown Room of the Pignatelli Building and will feature personalities and experts from various fields.

First Day: Multidisciplinary Perspective

The sessions on November 5 will begin with the inaugural conference «Promises and Realities of Artificial Intelligence», delivered by Diego Gutiérrez Pérez, founder and coordinator of the Graphics and Imaging Lab of the Aragón Institute of Engineering Research (IA3).

Subsequently, there will be a panel discussion titled «Between Utopia and Dystopia: What Genre Does the Symphony of Our Time Belong To?», moderated by journalist Genoveva Crespo. Participants include Encarna Samitier (president of the newspaper 20 Minutos), José Manuel Porquet, Pilar Narvión, writer Sara Barquinero del Toro (author of «Los escorpiones»), and composer Pilar Almalé.

The second roundtable, «What Have We Done with Our Ideas? The Apple Rolled Away», will be moderated by researcher Alberto J. Schumacher and will feature contributions from Belén Masiá Corcoy (computer engineer), Rosalía Machin Prieto (head of Digital Transformation and Cybersecurity), and José Ángel Gil Bordas (PhD in Engineering).

Second Day: Legal Perspective and Digital Reflection

On November 6, the focus will be on the legal perspective. Francisco Balaguer Callejón, professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Granada, will present the lecture «The Constitution of the Algorithm», based on his eponymous work.

Following that, the book «Legislative and Jurisprudential Updates: Law in the Face of the Challenge of Disruptive Technologies» will be presented, moderated by José Tudela García (secretary general of the Manuel Giménez Abad Foundation). Those participating will include Gonzalo Castro Marquina, María José González Ordovás (professor of Philosophy of Law), María Ángeles Rueda Martín (professor of Criminal Law), and Francisco Balaguer Callejón.

The colloquium «Governing the Algorithm, Not Letting the Algorithm Govern», moderated by Elisa Moreu Carbonell, will gather university professors Enrique Cebrián Zazurca, Miguel Lacruz Mantecón, and Jesús Ali Tahiri Moreno.

Eva Tobalina Ora, professor of Ancient History, will discuss «The Silk Road: Paths of Trade and Paths of Knowledge», establishing parallels between the rise of the Internet and historic trade routes.

The final colloquium, «The Citizen as a Rights Holder in the Digital Age», moderated by Pablo Guerrero Vázquez, will feature contributions from Elena Cisneros Cabrerizo, Alberto José Lafuente Torralba, and Teresa Picontó Novales.

The conferences will conclude with the lecture «Artificial Intuition: How (Not) Generative AIs Think», presented by Julio Antonio Gonzalo Arroyo, professor and principal researcher of the Natural Language Processing group at UNED.
