The program ‘Aragón, Land of Culture’, promoted by the General Directorates of Culture and Tourism of the Government of Aragón, unfolds this weekend in Castelnou and Monzón with two unique performances. These initiatives aim to democratize access to culture throughout Aragón by offering artistic events free of charge.
Puppet Show in Castelnou
The town of Castelnou will host The Puppets of Aunt Elena, who will present the play ‘Migrants’ on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in the local pavilion. This family-friendly performance combines puppetry, shadows, and objects to explore themes such as emigration and communication among birds, addressing their customs and vital needs. The founder of the company, Helena Millán, is renowned for her expertise in puppet-making and has presented her works on important stages across Spain.
Millán, who founded the company in 1995, has been recognized for her work in puppet operas for adults, such as ‘Rigoletto’, presented in the Throne Room of La Aljafería. Her company has toured theaters in cities such as Bilbao, Madrid, Barcelona, and Santiago, solidifying its status as a reference in the world of puppetry.
O’Carolan Concert in Monzón
On Sunday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m., the Cathedral of Santa María del Romeral in Monzón will be the venue for a concert by the group O’Carolan. With over 30 years of experience, this ensemble is legendary for its interpretation of Aragonese music using traditional instruments, integrating folk into their performances.
The group’s name pays tribute to the 17th-century Irish harpist Turlough O’Carolan. Since its inception, O’Carolan has transitioned from performing Atlantic music to focusing on Aragonese musical heritage, a shift they have embraced since 2010.
Impact of the Cultural Program
The program ‘Aragón, Land of Culture’ has a significant reach, with 111 performances across fifteen different disciplines scheduled in 96 locations throughout the 33 Aragonese counties over the year. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Government of Aragón to cultural dissemination and equitable access to the arts in all regions.
