Aragón Celebrates Education Day with Internationalization as a Focus

The Government of Aragon commemorated this Thursday the 2026 Day of Aragonese Education with an institutional event focused on academic excellence, innovation, and the international projection of the educational system. Under the slogan “Learning Without Borders,” the day brought together in Zaragoza representatives from the educational community, authorities, teachers, students, and entities recognized for their contributions to the development of education in the region.

The celebration, held in the Crown Hall of the Pignatelli Building, served to emphasize the role of education as a driver of social transformation in a community with nearly 275,000 students, more than 20,000 teachers, and around a thousand educational centers distributed across the provinces of Zaragoza, Huesca, and Teruel.

During her speech, the Minister of Education, Science, and Universities, Carmen Susín, defended the importance of dialogue, teaching vocation, and collective commitment to strengthen the educational system. The regional leader stressed that education must be “nurtured, protected, and celebrated,” highlighting its fundamental role in building the community’s future.

One of the central moments of the ceremony was the awarding of the Medal of Aragonese Education to the Edelvives Foundation, in recognition of its trajectory and efforts in promoting educational dissemination internationally. The institution, which has a significant editorial presence in numerous countries, was honored for its contribution to the development of pedagogical materials and for its ability to project Aragonese educational production beyond Spanish borders.

Additionally, the regional government awarded the Crosses of José de Calasanz, one of the highest educational honors in the community, to five prominent figures in the educational field. Among the recipients were writer and teacher Ana Alcolea Serrano; educational activist Arturo Arizón Aragüés, posthumously recognized; José Calvo Dombón; Natalia López Zamarvide; and José María Marín Velázquez.

The event also recognized the academic efforts of students in Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, and Vocational Training through the presentation of extraordinary performance awards. At the same time, various educational centers were distinguished for projects related to pedagogical innovation, school coexistence, STEAM programs, internationalization, and Erasmus+ initiatives, reflecting the diversity of approaches that characterize the Aragonese educational system.

Internationalization was the thematic focus of this edition. The chosen slogan, “Learning Without Borders,” served as a thread for reflection on opening classrooms to the world and the value of cultural and educational exchanges in training new generations. A roundtable dedicated to this issue and various student performances highlighted the growing global dimension of teaching in Aragon.

The day concluded with a performance by the Superior Conservatory of Music of Aragon, whose young performers offered a jota as a symbol of the connection between tradition and innovation, a balance that regional authorities placed at the heart of the educational strategy for the coming years.

In an international context marked by technological acceleration and the challenges of global mobility, the Day of Aragonese Education projected an image of a community seeking to combine territorial roots, academic excellence, and openness to the world, advocating for education as an essential tool to face the challenges of the 21st century.
