Aragón increases investment in CETDI de Jaca to 110,000 euros annually
The Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports of Aragón, Tomasa Hernández, has announced an increase in the financial contribution allocated to the Specialized Center for Winter Sports Technification (CETDI) located in Jaca. The funding will rise from 60,000 to 110,000 euros annually by 2026, as approved by the Governing Council.
Hernández visited the CETDI facilities accompanied by the Director General of Sports, Cristina García; the president of the Aragonese Federation of Winter Sports, José Ricardo Abad; the sports director of the center, Carlos Lannes; and the mayor of Jaca, Carlos Serrano. During her statement to the media, the minister described the CETDI as «a reference for winter sports in Aragón and across Spain» that represents «a commitment to excellence, effort, and the training of our athletes».
The center develops training programs in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and biathlon. Currently, about twenty athletes train at the facilities, including ten in the U18 alpine skiing category, four in U16, nine in cross-country skiing, and national team athlete Cristina Lanau. The CETDI also has six coaches. The center aims to enable young athletes to combine training and competition with school education, promoting their access to national and Olympic teams.
The minister expressed her dissatisfaction with the management of the ministry led by Pilar Alegría, pointing out that financial aid to sports centers has been granted «discretionarily» to what she terms «powerful» communities, such as Catalonia. She mentioned that three million euros have been allocated to the high-performance center in San Cugat for operational expenses and an additional 500,000 euros for infrastructure.
