Aragón has unveiled its strategy in San Sebastián to strengthen its position in the audiovisual sector, with more than €1 million in support, measures to attract film productions, and the development of projects such as Distrito 7 in Zaragoza. The region aims to establish the industry as a source of jobs, investment, and opportunities across its territory.
Aragón strengthens its position to attract productions and showcase audiovisual talent
The vice president and regional minister for the Presidency, Justice, Culture and Sports, Mar Vaquero, said at the event Aragón 2026: a new stage that will take you further that the region has gained visibility on the map of audiovisual opportunities. The gathering was held at San Sebastián’s Gastronomy Open Ecosystem as part of the Film Festival, organized by the Clúster Audiovisual de Aragón in collaboration with Aragón Film Commission.
The regional strategy rests on two priorities: making Aragón a more attractive location for domestic and international productions, and supporting the expansion of Aragonese companies and professionals beyond the region. Vaquero said that those filming in Aragón should find not only locations, but also support, coordination, and skilled professionals.
The regional official linked the sector’s growth to streamlining procedures, coordinating among government bodies, entities, and departments, and supporting teams that choose the region to develop their projects. The regional government is also working to expand its network of locations, showcase the territory’s diversity, and strengthen festivals as venues for access to culture, professional visibility, and connections with new audiences.
Vaquero also called for an update to the standard tax incentive so that Aragón can compete on equal terms with other regions. Key measures include the addition of Aragón Exterior as a partner of the Clúster Audiovisual de Aragón, part of an effort to strengthen the international reach of local productions and talent.
Support for Aragón’s audiovisual sector exceeds €1 million
The Government of Aragón’s financial support for audiovisual projects exceeds €1 million. Funding programs include €20,000 for short films by emerging directors, €40,000 for short films by established professionals, €130,000 for the development of medium-length and feature films, and €550,000 for production and postproduction.
These allocations are supplemented by €400,000 from the Teruel Investment Fund, earmarked specifically for audiovisual projects developed in the province. The support policy also includes listening to creators, coordinating local film offices, and assisting professionals and companies when their work reaches festivals and industry events.
Distrito 7 will transform the former Giesa factory into an audiovisual hub in Zaragoza
Zaragoza Mayor Natalia Chueca presented Distrito 7 as a cornerstone of the city’s commitment to the audiovisual industry. The project involves €20 million in municipal investment to transform the former Giesa factory into an ecosystem dedicated to production, training, idea development, and postproduction.
The initiative will include the arrival of EFD, an international company of Mexican origin that will manage the sound stages. Chueca described the project as part of a “second industrial revolution” tied to the audiovisual sector and highlighted its potential to attract productions, investment, and talent to Zaragoza.
