More than 500 researchers will take part in the 2026 European Researchers’ Night in Aragon, a free event that will bring experiments, workshops, science walks and monologues to Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel on September 25 and 26. Under the motto «Science in Aragon: Imagine Tomorrow», the program aims to showcase the work being carried out at research centers across the region.
Zaragoza to host more than 80 scientific activities at Plaza del Pilar
The main event will be centered in a 750-square-meter tent set up in Zaragoza’s Plaza del Pilar. The venue will feature 54 information and experiment tables, involving 33 institutions and research centers, and will offer more than 80 interactive activities organized into five areas: Technology, Energy and Space, Health, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and Humanities.
The tent will open on Friday, September 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and from 10:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with an expanded nighttime program this year. On Saturday, September 26, it will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.. The program will include the Science Corner, featuring talks by leading researchers from the Araid Foundation, as well as RISArchers monologues, live music by David Angulo and an exhibition of Cracks de la Ciencia, a collection of giant cards dedicated to distinguished scientists from the region.
The venue will also include a themed photocall and other science exhibitions. The initiative will turn the square into an open-air public laboratory, with activities for all ages focused on some of the research advances being made in Aragon.
Huesca and Teruel to bring research to squares, streets and cultural venues
In Huesca, research stands will be set up in Plaza de Navarra on Friday, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. The day will include science walks along the Isuela River, through Huesca’s commercial district and around the so-called “Huesca stone.” The event will conclude at 8:30 p.m. at Bendita Ruina bar, with RISArchers monologues.
Teruel will host its experimental activities under the arcades of Plaza del Torico, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. Scientific itineraries will cover a literary tour of the city, the Cuesta de la Bajada archaeological site and Teruel’s medieval history from the Museum of Sacred Art. Science monologues will close the program at 8:30 p.m. in the lobby of Hotel La Marquesa.
Teruel will also host a public astronomical observation session on Friday, September 25, from 9:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., at the astronomical viewpoint in Santa Emerenciana Park. The Aragon Center for Physics of the Cosmos Studies, CEFCA, will provide an introduction to observing nebulae, star clusters, stars and the Moon, alongside Teruel’s ACTUEL association. The Dinópolis Paleontological Foundation will also present its latest discoveries, research and fossil conservation strategies in the province, with replicas, books, paleo-guides and educational brochures.
Aragon event forms part of a European science outreach project
European Researchers’ Night is held simultaneously in nearly 400 European cities. In Aragon, it is organized by the Government of Aragon, through its Directorate-General for Science and Research, the University of Zaragoza and the Spanish National Research Council, CSIC.
For the seventh consecutive year, the University of Zaragoza has secured European funding for the G9EU4RESEARCH «The Night and Researchers at Schools in Europe» project, developed with the campuses of Spain’s Group 9 Universities during 2026 and 2027. The initiative is among the three Spanish projects selected and among the 49 chosen from the 241 applications submitted across Europe.
