The Government Council of Aragón has given the green light to the ambitious consolidation plan of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the region, with a total investment of 33.7 billion euros. This initiative, described by acting president Jorge Azcón as a foundational commitment to the territory, promises to boost economic development and job creation in the three provinces of Aragón.
AWS Expansion in Aragón: New Strategic Facilities
The AWS expansion plan in Aragón includes the construction of new data center campuses in four municipalities, thereby strengthening the technological infrastructure of the region. In Huesca, a facility of 46.93 hectares will be developed at the Huesca Logistics Platform (PLHUS), complementing the existing center. San Mateo de Gállego will see a significant expansion with 294 hectares designated for data centers and an adjacent area of 72 hectares for reforestation, creating an ecological corridor.
In Teruel, the ‘La Llanaza’ sector, encompassing the municipalities of La Puebla de Híjar and Azaila, will transform with 328.6 hectares of land. With these expansions, the AWS region in Aragón will reach a total of 798 hectares, solidifying its position as a technological pillar in Spain.
Employment and Economic Growth: A Significant Impact
The impact of the AWS project in Aragón will be notable in terms of employment and the economy. It is estimated that 4,200 direct jobs will be created annually during the construction and operational phases, in addition to 9,200 indirect and induced jobs, totaling 13,400 jobs in areas such as engineering, technology, construction, and services.
From an economic perspective, the AWS investment will contribute 18.5 billion euros to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the region by 2035. Additionally, a national fiscal contribution of 2.66 billion euros is expected over the next decade, highlighting the crucial role of this initiative in the economic development of Aragón.
