The IES Corona de Aragón in Zaragoza will initiate the Bachibac program next school year, joining three other institutions in Aragon that already offer it. This initiative, expanded by the Department of Education of the Government of Aragon, allows students to obtain both the Spanish Bachillerato and the French Baccalauréat simultaneously.
The program will increase from one to four schools over the next two years: IES Pirineos (Jaca), IES Martínez Vargas (Barbastro), IES Pablo Serrano (Zaragoza), and the new IES Corona de Aragón. This Zaragoza-based center has held the LabelFrancEducation certification since 2019, a recognition from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its outstanding bilingual education in French.
Features of the Bachibac Program
The Bachibac includes a mixed curriculum with an emphasis on French language and literature, as well as the history of Spain and France. The external examination for the second year is conducted entirely in French and corresponds to the B2 level of the European Framework. In particular, IES Pablo Serrano has shown an impressive success rate, recording a 100% pass rate in its sixth cohort, which will take place in May 2025.
Students who complete the program will have direct access to French universities with the Baccalauréat. In the Spanish context, they will benefit from an exemption from the History of Spain and First Foreign Language tests in the PAU, using their grades from the Bachibac evaluation.
The expansion of the program responds to the growing demand and reinforces the commitment to bilingual education, strengthening educational ties between Spain and France.
