The 2025-2026 school year begins in Aragón with 153,638 students enrolled in Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education. Among them, 8,845 three-year-old children are joining for the first time, although this number is lower than the previous year due to a decline in birth rates. Students in High School will start classes on September 10, those in Vocational Training on the 11th, and the rest of the educational programs will gradually commence until October 1.
The Government of Aragón has strengthened the staff with 400 new teachers, bringing the total number of active teachers to over 21,000, along with 800 aides and healthcare personnel. However, around 100 positions in Secondary Education and Vocational Training remain unfilled, which has led to extraordinary calls for applications.
Among the new developments, there is the opening of 24 TEA classrooms, 11 Special Education classrooms, and 8 early enrollment classrooms for two-year-olds. Additionally, 72 rural schools with fewer than ten students will remain open, and 120 Vocational Training programs will be offered in rural areas, with 27 new programs in total, nearly half in STEAM fields.
In High School, attendance is expected to be 14,327 students, 400 more than last year, and Vocational Training will surpass 23,000 enrollments, particularly growing in intermediate and advanced levels.
The regional government will allocate 32 million euros to educational infrastructure, enhance school transportation with 660 routes, and plans to provide 14.1 million euros in scholarships and 1.9 million for the book bank, benefiting more than 65,000 students.
The Minister of Education, Tomasa Hernández, emphasizes that education should be “a social elevator and a driver of development,” and advocates for the pillars of this academic year: excellence, equity, and freedom of choice, alongside a balanced digitalization policy and the reduction of bureaucracy for schools.
