The Government of Spain has decided to allocate 1.1 million euros to Aragon for the financing of textbooks and educational materials in 2026. This allocation is part of a Territorial Cooperation program aimed at strengthening educational equity throughout the country.
Distribution of funds and their impact in Aragon
The Council of Ministers has approved a budget of 1,142,647 euros for Aragon, as part of a national effort that distributes a total of 58.5 million euros among the autonomous communities. This program is designed to support families and ensure that all students have access to the necessary educational resources.
The aids are intended for students in Primary Education, ESO, Baccalaureate, and Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Vocational Training programs in publicly funded institutions. The resources can be used to acquire textbooks and educational materials, both in physical and digital formats.
Objectives and allocation criteria
Milagros Tolón, a representative of the Government, emphasized that the main objective of this initiative is to ensure that no economic barrier prevents students from accessing basic educational resources. This approach seeks to mitigate inequalities and promote a more equitable educational system.
The distribution of funds is based on two main criteria: the risk of poverty rate in each region and the number of students enrolled in non-university education in public institutions. This method aims to direct resources to areas with the greatest needs.
Future prospects and budgetary context
With the authorization of the Council of Ministers, the next step is the confirmation of the final distribution in the Sectoral Conference on Education, where coordination will take place with the autonomous communities. This process ensures that funds are allocated efficiently and according to regional needs.
The total budget of the program has significantly increased compared to previous years. In 2018, 48.5 million euros were allocated, while for 2026 the figure has risen to 58.5 million euros. This increase reflects the Government’s commitment to improving educational equity throughout the country.
