Aragón has closed the year 2025 with a notable increase in employment, adding 4,800 new jobs and establishing itself as the fourth autonomous community with the lowest unemployment rate in Spain. This progress is reflected in an unemployment rate of 7.7%, significantly lower than the national average of 9.93%.
Increase in Employment and Reduction of Unemployment
During 2025, Aragón recorded a total of 629,300 employed individuals, representing an annual growth of 0.77% in employment. Despite this increase, the region ended the year with 52,500 people unemployed. The activity rate stood at 57.98%, highlighting the region’s capacity to maintain an active labor participation.
In quarterly terms, employment experienced a slight decline of 0.19% compared to the previous quarter. However, unemployment decreased significantly by 10.87%, which equates to 6,400 fewer people out of work. This drop was particularly notable in the services and agriculture sectors.
Provincial Performance and Future Challenges
The provinces of Aragón showed diverse behaviors regarding employment. Zaragoza and Teruel experienced declines in employment of 0.66% and 0.16%, respectively. On the other hand, Huesca stood out with a 1.71% increase in the number of employed and a reduction in unemployment of 27.27%, achieving the lowest unemployment rate in Spain at 4.69%.
Despite these achievements, the community faces significant challenges. The active population decreased by 7,600 individuals, or 1.10%, indicating a labor shortage. This situation poses challenges to meet labor needs in both traditional sectors and new business investments.
Outlook and Opportunities
The assessment of 2025 in Aragón reflects a positive labor landscape, though not without challenges. The decline in the active population underscores the need for strategies that encourage labor participation and attract talent to the region. Aragón’s ability to adapt to labor market demands and foster new opportunities will be crucial to maintaining its prominent position on the national stage.
