Épila kicks off its Carnival celebrations this Thursday, traditionally known as Fiesta de Interés Turístico de Aragón. This title highlights the cultural value of a tradition with more than a century and a half of history that is deeply rooted in the life of the municipality.
The program will continue until Sunday, March 9, known as Piñata Sunday, featuring events for all audiences. Among the most characteristic elements of the Epila carnival are the mascarutas, characters dressed in fabrics and masks who roam the streets with high-pitched voices; the satirical murgas; and the popular figure of Don Zaputero, present in several activities.
The recognition awarded by the Government of Aragón follows a documentation process initiated by the City Council, which has certified the continuity of the festival, its community roots, and its historical significance. This distinction will help to enhance its promotion and attract more visitors to one of the most unique celebrations in the province.
With everything prepared, Épila is set to experience days filled with crowds, costumes, music, and tradition in a carnival that combines humor, participation, and collective memory.
