Aragón allocates 792,486 euros to boost the beekeeping sector

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food of Aragón has launched a grant program totaling 792,486 euros to boost the beekeeping sector in the region during 2026. These subsidies, supported by the Government of Aragón, the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF), and the Ministry of Agriculture, are part of the 2023-2027 CAP Strategic Plan and aim to improve both the production and marketing of beekeeping products. Interested parties have one month to submit their applications.

Support for the Modernization and Sustainability of the Beekeeping Sector

The subsidies are aimed at holders of beekeeping operations and sector associations, focusing on the modernization of operations, the sanitary improvement of hives, and the training and marketing of products. Carlos Calvo, General Director of Agricultural Production, emphasized the strategic importance of these subsidies, highlighting that beekeeping not only contributes to biodiversity and environmental balance but also enhances the competitiveness of the operations and promotes the professionalization of the sector.

In a context of rising costs, these measures are essential to ensure generational renewal and the settlement of the population in rural areas, thereby strengthening the socio-economic fabric of rural areas in Aragón.

Impact of the Beekeeping Sector in Aragón

The beekeeping sector in Aragón is robust, with over 1,200 operations and a census exceeding 104,000 hives. The distribution of these operations is significant across the three provinces of the autonomous community:

In Teruel, there are approximately 200 operations with more than 40,000 hives, concentrated in areas such as Andorra, Montalbán, and Mora de Rubielos. Zaragoza hosts over 300 operations and more than 50,000 hives, with major concentrations in Ejea de los Caballeros, Borja, and Calatayud. Meanwhile, Huesca has over 250 operations and more than 40,000 hives, with notable activity in Barbastro, Huesca capital, and Boltaña.

These figures reflect the importance of the beekeeping sector in the Aragonese economy and its potential to continue growing and adapting to new market challenges.
