Pérez Forniés welcomes the first Aragonese awarded the National Prize for Young Researchers
The Minister of Employment, Science, and Universities, Claudia Pérez Forniés, has received the Huesca scientist Pepa Martínez Pérez after being awarded the National Prize for Young Researchers 2025, becoming the first Aragonese to receive this recognition.
Pepa Martínez Pérez holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Zaragoza and is a researcher at the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA). The award recognizes her research career in advanced scientific instrumentation, as well as her original contributions in the fields of magnetism, superconductivity, and quantum computing. During her meeting with the minister, the researcher shared details about her career and the projects she is currently involved in.
The scientist explained that, although the applications of her work in quantum computing will be realized in decades, this field «could revolutionize science, it could help us create simulations of materials we need for batteries, for solar cells, for medications or vaccines.»
Minister Pérez Forniés congratulated the researcher, expressing pride in seeing how «the programs we are rolling out from the Government of Aragon, fully engaged with science» are bearing fruit. She highlighted that the awardee has been ARAID, has been at the University of Zaragoza, has settled at the CSIC, and is part of INMA, demonstrating the community’s ability to retain and attract talent.
The award helps to highlight research, value Aragonese talent, and provides a significant boost to secure funding and continue research efforts.
