Zaragoza is preparing to become the epicenter of innovation in fruit and citrus cultivation with the celebration of the XIII Fruit Growing Conference and the III Citrus Conference. The event, organized by the Aragon Centre for Research and Technology in Food (CITA), the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM Zaragoza), and the Spanish Society of Horticultural Sciences (SECH), will bring together experts from across the country to discuss the latest advances in research and technology in the sector.
Call for Researchers and Professionals
Since February, those interested in participating can submit their scientific communications, either in oral or poster format. This submission period will remain open until March 30. The conferences will take place from June 16 to 18 at the Aula Dei Campus of CIHEAM Zaragoza, a space designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among researchers and professionals in the field.
Key Themes for the Future of the Sector
The conferences will address a series of crucial topics for the future of fruit and citrus cultivation, such as the adaptation of plant materials to new climatic conditions, pest and disease control, and the mechanization and intensification of crops. In addition, sustainable production techniques and the digitalization of the sector will be explored, which are fundamental aspects for improving the efficiency and sustainability of agricultural practices.
María José Rubio-Cabetas, coordinator and researcher at CITA, emphasizes that this edition will focus on challenges such as the movement of plant materials, technological applications, the calculation of the carbon balance, and the profitability of plantations. The aim is for research centers, universities, companies, and farmers to collaborate to advance in areas such as genetic improvement, irrigation, crop protection, post-harvest, and marketing.
A High-Level Organizing Committee
The event has an organizing committee composed of representatives from CITA, CIHEAM Zaragoza, and SECH, backed by a scientific committee made up of renowned researchers from Spanish agri-food centers. This structure guarantees a rigorous and multidisciplinary approach, ensuring that the conferences are a reference in the field of fruit and citrus cultivation.
