The figure of Francisco de Goya continues to inspire new generations. Fundación Ibercaja has opened the participation period for the fifth edition of the national comic contest “Universo Goya”, aimed at young people aged 18 to 30. The initiative seeks to promote knowledge of the Aragonese genius through a contemporary format like the comic, offering participants the opportunity to create, win prizes, and exhibit their work.
A doorway to young talent
The contest, open from April 25 until June 27 at 12:00 PM, accepts individual or collective works, with free technique and style, as long as they revolve around the life and work of Goya. Participants can draw inspiration from his career, biography, or any specific painting, engraving, or drawing by the author.
The works must be original, unpublished, and complete, ranging from 2 to 4 pages in vertical format, and can be created in black and white or color. Submissions will be accepted in digital format, and the selected entries will compete for two cash prizes: 2,000 euros for the first place and 1,000 for the second.
Much more than a prize
In addition to the awards, the winning and finalist comics will be part of a exhibition at the Espacio Joven of Fundación Ibercaja, scheduled for December 2026 during the Salón del Cómic de Zaragoza. The exhibition will travel to other Spanish cities during 2027, and the works will also be included in a published catalog for cultural dissemination.
According to Fundación Ibercaja, the initiative has been notably successful in its previous editions, with 223 participants to date. The contest is a commitment to emerging talent, aiming to provide a real platform for young artists to showcase their work and connect with the legacy of one of the most influential painters in history.
Registration and submission
Interested individuals must register through the official contest website and submit their proposal with the title, technique, size, and year of creation, accompanied by scanned images in JPG format (21×29 cm, 150 dpi) and a brief explanatory text about the creative process. An academic curriculum of a maximum of 40 lines is also required.
The jury’s decision will be announced on July 21, 2025.
A bridge between past and present
This initiative is part of the cultural programs of Fundación Ibercaja, a non-profit entity dedicated to educational, social, and cultural innovation. With the “Universo Goya” contest, the institution not only pays tribute to the Aragonese artist but also creates a bridge between tradition and contemporary creation, allowing new generations to reinterpret Goya in their own language.
