The exhibition dedicated to Francisco de Goya at the Palacio de la Aljafería updates its content with the addition of twenty new prints, belonging to the artist from Aragon’s most emblematic series. This change, motivated by conservation criteria, aims to maintain public interest and adequately preserve the displayed works.
The exhibition ‘Goya, from the Museum to the Palace‘, inaugurated in December 2024, offers a chronological journey through the work of the painter from Fuendetodos. As part of the renewal, five prints from each of the series ‘Disasters of War’, ‘Caprichos’, ‘Tauromaquia’, and ‘Disparates’ have been added. Additionally, the letter from Martín Zapater and the original cover of the Album of Proverbs have been replaced with facsimiles, in order to preserve the originals for the ambient and lighting exhibition.
During the replacement event, held on April 11, the General Director of Culture of the Government of Aragon, Pedro Olloqui, emphasized the importance of the technical work carried out by conservators and restorers to ensure the preservation of the works. For her part, Arancha Echeverría-Torres, who is responsible for the exhibition on behalf of the Cortes de Aragon, underscored that this rotation of graphic works aims to enhance visitor interest and reaffirms the commitment to preserving artistic heritage.
The conservator-restorer of the Museo de Zaragoza, Nerea Díez de Pinos López, explained that Goya’s graphic works require periodic rest due to their sensitivity to environmental conditions. The new prints are displayed in showcases with special filters that ensure their conservation and safety.
The exhibition, which will remain open for two years while renovations at the Museo de Zaragoza take place, presents a unique opportunity to contemplate Goya’s work in a historical and heritage-rich environment like the Palacio de la Aljafería.
