The landscapes that comprise the province of Huesca are practically endless. There is something for everyone, and each person could create their own ranking of must-see places in Huesca. Here is our selection:
Selva de Oza
At the western end of the Huesca Pyrenees lies one of the most striking scenes of the entire mountain range. In a short distance, you can traverse the rugged cliffs of the Garganta del Diablo or contemplate the meandering mountain streams at Aguas Tuertas. But above all, you can take a stroll through a storybook forest like the one that awaits in Selva de Oza.
Aigualluts
In the shadow of Aneto and the glacier of Maladeta, which is increasingly shrinking, the Pla d’Aigualluts is where the waters of the highest mountains in the Pyrenees converge. These waters create a spectacular waterfall before filtering deep into the earth at the Forau de Aigualluts.
Castillo de Piracés
Not everything in the province of Huesca consists of green mountains. There are places that appear more arid, yet are truly stunning. The «dolphin» of Rodellar
Climbers from all over Spain and many parts of Europe have heard of the Sierra de Guara, both for its canyoning routes and the hundreds of climbing paths in this protected area. The most eye-catching icon of this grand adventure park known as Guara is surely the natural formation known as the «dolphin» of Rodellar.
Salto de Roldán
We don’t stray far from the Sierra de Guara, heading to its western flank. There, just a step away from the city of Huesca and as a monumental gateway to the Pyrenean mountains, the legendary Salto de Roldán opens up—a space of fantastical legends and also an ideal spot to contemplate the expanse of the Hoya and watch the flight of dozens of raptors.
Peña Oroel
Peña Oroel may not be the tallest mountain, nor is its ascent particularly complicated, but it possesses a special aura. This is due to its striking prominence in the landscape of Jacetania. It is an ideal place for contemplation and hiking, allowing you to enjoy views of Jaca, the valley of the Aragón River, and the neighboring Sierra de San Juan de la Peña.
The Sierra de Alcubierre
A radical change of scenery brings us to Monegros, specifically its more mountainous part, the Sierra de Alcubierre. The landscape has a special charm, and mountain biking enthusiasts will find amazing routes here. But it is also a place with significant historical and literary depth, especially if one follows the Orwell Route through the remnants of the Civil War in this mountain range.
Ripas de Alcolea de Cinca
The Cinca River offers beautiful landscapes, starting from its source in the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. Even near its mouth at the Segre River, it carves out unique scenery. This is the case with the Ripas de Alcolea de Cinca. They can even be seen while traveling on the AVE train towards Barcelona, but they are far more impressive when viewed up close.
Mallos de Riglos
The list of the most beautiful postcards from the province of Huesca could be much longer. However, to conclude this Top 10, we choose the unmistakable silhouette of the Mallos de Riglos. A reddish mass of conglomerate rocks that never fails to impress, no matter how many times you look at them. An image that is not only of Huesca but of all Aragón.
