The General Director of Culture of the Government of Aragon, Pedro Olloqui, participated this Tuesday in the inauguration of the exhibition ‘The Flow of Time’ by Isabel Guerra in Madrid. The exhibition, organized by the Ibercaja Foundation, will be open for visit at the Serrería Belga Cultural Space until October 19.
Pedro Olloqui praised the «luminous painting» of Isabel Guerra, which «seductively attracts viewers.» The General Director emphasized that «spirituality is part of and has always been a reference in the Aragonese plastic arts,» citing examples such as Goya, the El Paso group, and the sculptures of Serrano and Víctor Mira.
Olloqui recalled that Isabel Guerra came to Aragon at the age of 23 «and became Aragonese forever,» and he valued the collaboration with the Ibercaja Foundation, which «does excellent cultural work,» fostering public-private collaboration.
The exhibition presents 28 works that explore two elements of Guerra’s latest artistic phase: classicism in her approach to painting and modernity, present in the treatment of textures, the incorporation of abstract backgrounds, and the prominent use of color.
The exhibition is centered on the figure and landscape, the two genres most cultivated by the author, and details the evolution of her work from 2013 to 2024. The works include oils, acrylics, and mixed techniques on board, canvas, or paper in various sizes.
The exhibition is complemented by photographs taken by Isabel Guerra that constitute a nostalgic homage to her native Madrid, and an audiovisual featuring an interview with the painter by the writer Magdalena Lasala. It also includes the portrait of the former president of Aragon, Javier Lambán, presented on July 10, marking the last public appearance of the former president who passed away on August 15.
This is Isabel Guerra’s first exhibition in Madrid since 2015, organized by the Ibercaja Foundation in collaboration with the City Council of Madrid.
