The asphalt of MotorLand Aragón has been the stage for an alliance aimed at redefining talent development in Spanish motorcycling. Jorge Lorenzo, five-time MotoGP world champion, has led an intensive technical training session alongside his pupil, Víctor Cubeles, known in the paddock as “Chico Maravilla”. This session marks a turning point in the ambitious project JL99 Performance, the comprehensive development program that Lorenzo personally directs.
The Method of Precision
Lorenzo’s commitment to Cubeles, a 15-year-old rider from Zuera, is not a matter of chance. As Jorge himself explains, the spark emerged months ago during a training session in Valencia where Maverick Viñales was also participating. «I was struck by his precision, the fact that he never made mistakes», notes Lorenzo.
This meticulous and cerebral style has led Cubeles to become the first official project of this academy, which has the direct collaboration of Chicho Lorenzo and is inspired by the philosophy of «La Masía» of FC Barcelona: a 360-degree training approach that goes beyond just giving gas on track. For Jorge, Víctor’s greatest virtue is his strategic intelligence: «He is very cautious, knows his limit, and does not exceed it, which results in very few falls.»
Goals 2026: Between Learning and Ambition
After a week of training in Zuera and MotorLand, the team has defined the roadmap for the current season. Víctor Cubeles, who already holds titles such as the champion of Spain in Moto5, faces a demanding double calendar:
-
European Talent Cup: The goal is to regularly secure a position in the Top 10, with the ambition to climb to the Top 5 and even compete for the top positions in the championship.
-
Italian Championship (CIV) of Moto3: A competition that they will use as a learning platform to gain confidence on world-class circuits and adapt to the technical demands of the category.
A Solid Foundation for the Future
For «Chico Maravilla,» having the support of a figure like Lorenzo is an unprecedented opportunity. «It’s about learning to build a career on solid foundations», comments the young Aragonese, who also confirmed that he will be present at the upcoming Grand Prix of MotoGP in MotorLand to continue closely analyzing the world elite.
The day in Alcañiz not only served to fine-tune lines and technical details; it also provided a framework to strengthen alliances with sponsors who see in the Lorenzo-Cubeles duo the strongest bet for the future of national motorcycling. With discipline and the guidance of one of the best in history, the path to the elite for «Chico Maravilla» seems more than laid out.
