Mar Romera, educator and leader in emotional education, will inaugurate the Early Childhood Education Summit 0-6 in Huesca with the presentation “Emotional and Exciting Education.” In this interview, Romera shares a critical and transformative vision of early childhood education, based on her model of the three Cs: Capabilities, Competencies, and Heart.
Romera asserts that emotional education is not a trend, but an urgent necessity to face the challenges of the 21st century. She emphasizes the importance of emotionally literacy, understanding and regulating emotions from an early age, and distinguishes between emotional and affective education.
She advocates for a school that holistically cares for the individual, not only academically but also humanly and emotionally. She believes that the key to educational success lies in the teaching staff, in their personal balance and cultural training, rather than in material resources.
She criticizes the bureaucratization of the system, the excess of poorly utilized resources, and the high turnover of teachers, which prevents the creation of lasting bonds with students. She supports a school that listens, accompanies, and respects individual diversity, involving families and the community as well.
Regarding innovation, creativity, and emotions—the pillars of the Summit—she warns against the “empty trend” of meaningless innovation and underscores that critical and creative thinking is essential in the face of advancing artificial intelligence.
She concludes that real changes will come “from within,” from each teacher who is aware of their transformative power.
