IV Patios X The Climate Meeting in Zaragoza Promotes Educational Renaturalization
Zaragoza will host the IV Patios X The Climate Meeting next Monday, an event that will bring together specialists from across the country in sustainability and education. The initiative is promoted by the General Directorate of Environmental Education and is part of the official programming of Aragón Climate Week 2025. The meeting aims to discuss and share innovative nature-based proposals to implement in school environments.
The IV Meeting will open with an institutional welcome and the official presentation of the program, followed by a roundtable where experts and institutional representatives will share national experiences in the renaturalization of educational spaces.
Montse Hernández Martín, head of the Office of Environment, Climate Action, and Public Health, will present the program Adapt Your Playground, a pioneering initiative in Zaragoza that promotes the creation of greener, more inclusive, and resilient schoolyards. Sebastián Zaplana, from the CIRCE technological center, will present participation in the European project Horizon Clima CARDIMED, which develops nature-based solutions to adapt educational settings to extreme heat episodes.
Raquel Giménez Acón, the General Director of Environmental Education of the Government of Aragón, will present the official program for the 2025-2026 school year in Aragón. Marga Muñoz, from the Water and Environment Documentation Center (CDAMAZ) of the Zaragoza City Council, will present the Guide to Educational Resources on Climate Change, a tool aimed at teachers and educational institutions to enhance environmental awareness.
III Meeting of the Spanish Network for Educational Renaturalization
The event will conclude with the III Meeting of the Spanish Network for the Renaturalization of Educational Spaces and Environments, a collaborative working space that will include the participation of Mamen Artero, María Francisca Álvarez Nistal, Silvia Escolano, Marta Vilar, Antonio Aragón, Paulina Pérez, Reina Ruíz, Cristina Palés, Roberto González, and Pilar Lleonart.
Participants will work in four thematic groups focused on participation and governance, curricular integration and pedagogical use, monitoring observatory, and communication strategies.
The renaturalization of schoolyards seeks to transform educational centers into greener and more resilient spaces. In addition to improving student well-being, it helps mitigate the effects of heat waves and reduces the need for climate control, establishing itself as a model for climate change adaptation.
Attendance is free and open to the entire educational community, families, and interested professionals. Registrations can be made through www.aragoncambioclimatico.es/cuarto-encuentro-patios-x-el-clima/
