The acting Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food, Javier Rincón, participated on March 23, 2026, in a school activity at CEIP Campo de Borja, Zaragoza, to promote the consumption of DOP Sierra del Moncayo Olive Oil. This initiative aims to encourage healthy eating habits among students in the province.
Promotion of DOP Olive Oil in the Educational Sphere
The educational day included talks and workshops on Aragonese Foods, aimed at students from 1st to 3rd grade. The event culminated in a healthy lunch, where the olive oil from the Designation of Origin was the star ingredient. Rincón emphasized the importance of children knowing and valuing local products from an early age, thus promoting healthy eating habits.
The ‘Healthy Breakfasts’ campaign by the CRDOP Sierra del Moncayo Olive Oil, active since 2018, has extended to educational centers in Tarazona, El Moncayo, Campo de Borja, and, since 2022, some centers in Zaragoza. This initiative has been well received by students, families, and teachers, establishing itself as an effective educational tool.
Characteristics of DOP Sierra del Moncayo Olive Oil
DOP Sierra del Moncayo Olive Oil is produced mainly from the empeltre and arbequina olive varieties, grown in the unique altitude and climate conditions of the Moncayo. This environment gives the oil a smooth sensory profile, with moderate bitterness and pungency, and a predominance of fruity notes. Its rich composition of oleic acid and antioxidants makes it an essential component of the Mediterranean diet.
The Protected Designation of Origin guarantees not only the geographical origin of the oil but also the rigorous control of its production and adherence to strict quality parameters. These characteristics ensure that the oil is not only a product of culinary excellence but also a health ally.
