Zaragoza Provincial Council Launches the 2026 Santa Isabel Comic Award

The Zaragoza Provincial Council has launched the fifth edition of the Santa Isabel de Comic award, offering an incentive of 5,000 euros and the publication of the winning work. This competition aims to highlight the talent of Aragonese cartoonists and illustrators and is accepting submissions until May 8, according to the Official Bulletin of the Province of Zaragoza.

Participation and Submission Requirements

The contest is open to individuals born or registered in Aragon for at least one year. Additionally, team participation is allowed, as long as a representative submits the application. However, winners from the previous edition will not be able to participate this time. Each participant can submit up to two different works.

The works must be ongoing comic projects, including a 500-word dossier about the story, a description and design of the main characters, and five finished consecutive pages. These pages may or may not be the initial ones of the comic. The style, treatment, and genre are completely free, allowing for submissions in both black and white and color. It is essential that the works are original, unpublished, and have not won other contests or are pending judgment.

Awards and Winner’s Rights

The creator of the winning work will receive a prize of 5,000 euros and 100 free copies of the first edition of their comic. The Zaragoza Provincial Council will retain the rights for publishing and reproduction of the work for a period of twelve months from the award granting. Furthermore, the work will be presented at an official event organized by the Provincial Council, providing a platform for visibility for the winner.

Cultural Support from the Provincial Council

Charo Lázaro, delegated deputy for Culture, emphasized that this award is part of a broad program of cultural prizes and grants aimed at supporting local artists and recognizing the work of cartoonists and illustrators in Aragon. Such initiatives underscore the Zaragoza Provincial Council’s commitment to promoting culture and the arts in the region.
