The Zaragoza Provincial Council is holding a new conference this Wednesday dedicated to delving into the healthcare history of the province. Titled “Ramón y Cajal, Genaro Casas and Medical Training at the Hospital”, the session will discuss the period during which both doctors worked at the historic Provincial Hospital —now known as Our Lady of Grace Hospital— and the role they played in modernizing medical education.
The talk is part of the complementary activities of the exhibition celebrating the 600th anniversary of the hospital, organized by the DPZ at the Palace of Sástago, which has received a wide public response. The aim is to broaden the perspective on key figures in Spanish science and to contextualize their work within the framework of the institution.
During the conference, the relevance of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, one of the most influential figures in modern medicine, will be analyzed, as well as the contributions of Genaro Casas, who, while less known to the general public, was fundamental in the training of generations of professionals. It will be explained how both contributed to the introduction of scientific methods, the improvement of clinical practice, and the reinforcement of the center’s prestige.
With this initiative, the Zaragoza Provincial Council continues its effort to promote historical and cultural dissemination, valuing the healthcare legacy of the territory and bringing it closer to the public through accessible and quality educational activities.
