Zaragoza to Host the Saraqusta Film Festival from April 24 to May 1, 2026

The sixth edition of the Saraqusta Film Festival will transform Zaragoza into an epicenter of historical cinema from April 24 to May 1, 2026. The event, organized jointly by the Zaragoza City Council and Cosmos Fan, will feature a diverse program that includes a free screening of ‘Braveheart’ in the iconic Plaza del Pilar.

Special screening of ‘Braveheart’ in the Plaza del Pilar

On Tuesday, April 28, at 7:30 PM, the Plaza del Pilar will become an open-air cinema with the screening of ‘Braveheart,’ directed and starring Mel Gibson. This free event, which requires prior online reservation, will allow 600 attendees to enjoy this classic epic film, winner of five Academy Awards, in an iconic setting of Zaragoza. José Ángel Delgado, the festival director, emphasizes that the initiative aims to «create a space for reflection on History» in such a significant location for the city.

Venues and festival program

The festival will take place across several key venues in Zaragoza. The Fundación Ibercaja Patio de la Infanta will host screenings for the ‘Panorama Saraqusta’ section at 5:00 PM. At the Cine Cervantes, documentaries will be presented at 7:00 PM, followed by feature films in competition at 9:00 PM. The Museum of the Theatre of Caesaraugusta will be the venue for Aragonese documentaries at 12:00 PM and roundtable discussions at 12:30 PM, focusing on cinema and history.

British actress Jacqueline Bisset will be honored with the «Golden Dragon» during the festival’s closing ceremony on May 1. Meanwhile, Spanish actress Kimberley Tell will receive the Saraqusta award at the opening ceremony on April 24, in recognition of her work in the historical genre, including her role in the series ‘Ena.’

Tickets for competitive works cost 4.5 euros, while passes that grant access to 10 audiovisual screenings and the opening and closing galas are available for 15 euros. Additionally, roundtable discussions, Aragonese documentaries, ‘Panorama Saraqusta,’ and special screenings will be free, subject to prior online reservation.
