The Saraqusta Film Festival in Zaragoza kicks off with the premiere of two documentaries that explore the rich historical heritage of the city. ‘Mudayán’ and ‘El Patio de la Infanta’ will be screened today, April 25, at the Cine Cervantes, offering a deep and visually appealing look at different eras of Zaragoza.
Exploring the Golden Age of Saraqusta with Mudayán
‘Mudayán’ delves into the medieval splendor of the Taifa of Saraqusta, a period of great prosperity that transformed Zaragoza into an artistic, scientific, and cultural hub. Directed by Cristina Gálvez and Javier Alvero, and produced by Iris Ladrero and Carlos Lorenzo, this documentary relies on interviews with experts such as Javier Bona and Magdalena Lasala to reconstruct an era that left an indelible mark on Mudejar art and local gastronomy. The soundtrack, enhanced by the voice of Moroccan singer-songwriter Nabyla Maan and compositions by Alejandro Monserrat, complements the historical narrative.
The Historical Journey of El Patio de la Infanta
On the other hand, ‘El Patio de la Infanta’, directed by Luis Galán and produced by the Fundación Ibercaja along with Factoría Henneo, offers a tale that combines documentary and fiction. Through the eyes of an art historian, the documentary traverses five centuries of history of the emblematic patio, from its Renaissance period to its current state. With interviews featuring figures like Guillermo Fatás and Domingo Buesa, and performances by actors like Sara Vidorreta, the work reflects on memory and cultural transmission.
Access to the festival screenings is designed to be inclusive and accessible. A pass for 15 euros allows entry to the 10 audiovisual screenings in competition, as well as to the closing gala and cocktail. Individual tickets cost 4.5 euros, while round tables and special sections are free with prior reservation. Tickets are available at saraqustafilmfestival.com.
The festival is a collaboration between the Zaragoza City Council, Cosmos Fan, and the Government of Aragón, with Fundación Ibercaja as the main partner. This event not only celebrates cinema but also highlights Zaragoza’s rich cultural heritage, inviting the public to explore and appreciate its history through the screen.
