Hernández Highlights the Role of the STEAM Methodology in Aragonese Education

The Counselor of Education, Culture, and Sports of the Government of Aragon, Tomasa Hernández, spoke on October 14, 2025 at the 15th edition of the ‘Educating for the Future’ cycle organized by Fundación Ibercaja. The event, held at the Patio de la Infanta, focused on ‘STEAM Competencies: Innovate, Research, and Create’.

Tomasa Hernández inaugurated the fifteenth edition of the cycle organized by Fundación Ibercaja, where she emphasized that the STEAM methodology fosters scientific and technological vocations and promotes a critical and creative attitude toward the challenges facing young people today. During the event, the mountaineer Edurne Pasaban delivered the conference ‘Expedition to Success: Achieving Goals and Overcoming Challenges’.

The counselor defined the STEAM methodology as a crucial concept for 21st-century education that integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. According to Hernández, this cross-disciplinary and integrative approach offers a new way of learning that enables the addressing of real-world problems from a critical, creative, and deeply human perspective. The methodology promotes the development of practical and creative skills, encourages teamwork and communication, and enhances critical thinking.

The Role of Teachers in Educational Transformation

Hernández highlighted the responsibility of equipping students with the tools that not only allow them to face the future but also actively design it. The counselor considered it essential for teachers to have solid and updated training, defining them as the pillar of this educational transformation. She expressed her gratitude to the attending teachers for their commitment to innovation, educational reflection, and the excellence of the Aragonese educational system.
