Located in the heart of Bajo Aragón, TechnoPark MotorLand has established itself as a strategic node for innovation, research, and technological development related to the automotive world, sustainable mobility, and Industry 4.0.
Since its inception nearly 20 years ago, this technological park has positioned itself as a unique space where leading companies, testing centers, educational institutions, and public bodies coexist, all focused on promoting knowledge applied to key sectors for energy and digital transition.
Over the years, TechnoPark has evolved from a local initiative to a globally oriented infrastructure, now working in areas such as electrification, hydrogen, artificial intelligence, and autonomous driving, supporting both multinationals and innovative SMEs.
Synergies as a Competitive Advantage
Its proximity to the international speed circuit of MotorLand Aragón provides a unique competitive advantage for testing technologies in real conditions, generating direct synergies with motorsport and industrial development.
Beyond the technological sphere, TechnoPark has also become a key player in the economic dynamization of the Bajo Aragón region, contributing to the creation of qualified jobs and the establishment of talent in an area traditionally affected by demographic challenges.
Active collaboration with universities, vocational training centers, and public administrations reinforces its role as a catalyst for change towards a more sustainable and competitive productive model.
At the helm of this project since its inception, Daniel Urquizu knows as few do the challenges and opportunities that this space encompasses. In this interview, he reviews TechnoPark’s main achievements, analyzes the current state of the park, and outlines the next strategic steps to continue attracting innovation and investment to Aragón.
One of the Main Development Hubs in Bajo Aragón
TechnoPark MotorLand has become a fundamental hub for the economic and technological development of Bajo Aragón. While the MotorLand speed circuit has captured the media spotlight, the true silent engine of the territory has been this technological park that houses innovative companies, nurtures local talent, and attracts international projects.
«If one wonders what Alcañiz and the region would look like in 2025 if MotorLand had never existed, it is clear that the economic, social, and business impact would be significantly different. It is not just a matter of construction permits or visitors. We are talking about local companies that have had to grow to provide a variety of services: maintenance, equipment, supplies… We always encourage these companies to seek solutions in their immediate environment,» explains Daniel Urquizu, director of TechnoPark MotorLand.
An Ecosystem that Drives Business Synergies
This technological park has generated an ecosystem that not only accommodates companies in the automotive and mobility sectors but also acts as a catalyst for business synergies. «We rely on two key aspects: we have space to continue growing and we have already created an ecosystem that generates its own momentum. That snowball is already rolling, even though it needs to be pushed every day. When a company enters here, it knows that it is not alone. It finds resources, services, other agents, and partners that support their project,» adds Urquizu.
One of the most illustrative examples is the collaboration with the local company Motocross Center, which has enhanced its logistical and commercial capacity thanks to TechnoPark’s support. «We sat down with their manager to understand how their warehouses operated, order management, their needs… And we worked alongside them to redesign processes: how to optimize picking, how to reduce steps in the warehouse, how to bring the most requested products closer to improve times and efficiency,» states Urquizu. «They have done an outstanding job: they use artificial intelligence and the best tools to detect their customers’ needs. We only contributed a small grain of sand, but it is fundamental.»
Collaboration and Active Listening: Keys to Success
This constant support is complemented by a strategy of active collaboration with universities, administrations, and public bodies. «We have been given two ears and one mouth to listen twice as much as we speak. We practice active listening: we understand the companies, their needs, their present, and their future ambitions,» comments Urquizu, highlighting the importance of public-private cooperation.
Commitment to Young Talent and the Future
TechnoPark MotorLand is also an attraction point for young talent, particularly through initiatives such as MotoStudent, an international university competition that challenges students from around the world to design and manufacture racing motorcycles, fostering the development of technical and soft skills.
With spacious areas and comprehensive services, TechnoPark MotorLand looks to the future with confidence that it will continue to be a driver of economic development, technological innovation, and job creation for Bajo Aragón.
An Ecosystem in Constant Growth
«We have space to continue growing and we have already created an ecosystem that generates its own momentum,» points out Urquizu. This momentum translates into an environment of collaboration and mutual support among the companies and entities that inhabit the park, who know that they are not alone in facing the challenges of innovating in demanding sectors such as automotive and mobility.
Daniel Urquizu insists that this community created around TechnoPark MotorLand is one of its great assets: «When a company enters here, it finds resources, services, other agents, and colleagues who support their project. That creates a snowball that keeps growing.» This dynamic has allowed local companies, such as Motocross Center, to enhance their logistical and commercial capabilities thanks to close and personalized support.
The experience with Motocross Center is paradigmatic: «We sat down with their manager to understand how their warehouses operated, order management, their needs… And we worked alongside them to redesign processes: how to optimize picking, how to reduce steps in the warehouse, how to bring the most requested products closer to improve times and efficiency,» according to Urquizu, «they have done an outstanding job: they use artificial intelligence and the best tools to detect their customers’ needs. We only contributed a small grain of sand, but it is fundamental.»
Listening to Move Forward
A fundamental pillar in the management of TechnoPark MotorLand is active listening, both towards companies and public and educational agents. «We have been given two ears and one mouth to listen twice as much as we speak. We practice active listening: we understand the companies, their needs, their present, and their future ambitions,» emphasizes Urquizu. This ability to listen and adapt allows the technological park to remain a relevant and useful space for those seeking to innovate and grow.
This commitment to public-private cooperation is key for the park’s director: «Collaboration with universities, vocational training centers, and public administrations reinforces our role as a catalyst for change towards a more sustainable and competitive productive model.»
